China news agency, Hong Kong, May 18: A light rail derailment accident occurred in Hong Kong on the 18 thlodigameFortunately, no one was injured. Hong Kong police said that the incident occurred when a wooden board carried by a heavy truck fell into the track, causing the light rail to derail. The police had arrested the driver of the heavy truck involved on suspicion of "driving a dangerous vehicle."
The MTR said that at 9:25 a.m., when a non-passenger light rail truck that was returning to the Tuen Mun Depot arrived near Chung Uk Tsuen Station, it was suspected that there was foreign objects on the track, causing one of the bogies under the first truck to deviate from the track.
After the incident, a large number of engineering personnel came to the scene to deal with it. As engineering staff had to remove the trains involved, the four light rail lines passing through Chung Uk Tsuen Station were affected. The MTR arranged free feeder buses to pick up the affected passengers. Train services on the affected sections gradually returned to normal at 12:42 noon.
The MTR said that the light rail involved was driving according to traffic signals and did not exceed the speed limit. The accident involved foreign objects on the track, and the MTR will further investigate the cause of the accident.
Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, expressed concern about the incident and would discuss improvement measures with the MTR.
Zhang Xinyu, a member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, suggested that in the future, MTR could consider using technology such as vehicle-mounted detection instruments to monitor the track, especially level crossings, issue early warning messages and arrange handling to reduce the probability of similar accidents.
